Have you ever dreamed of being a treasure hunter? This spring, Scouts (10-14 years) from 4th Newcastle, based at Jesmond Parish Church, turned that dream into reality. Armed with radios, fluorescent jackets, and a keen sense of adventure, they embarked on a geocaching quest—cracking puzzles, deciphering clues, and racing to uncover hidden caches across Jesmond and beyond, all while earning their Geocaching badge.

Geocaching—a modern-day treasure hunt powered by GPS—requires problem-solving, navigation, and teamwork, all fundamental skills in Scouting. Led by their dedicated volunteer leaders, the Scouts worked together to track down elusive caches, experiencing firsthand the thrill of discovery.

But geocaching is just one of the many exciting activities 4th Newcastle Scouts take part in. Every Friday night brings something new—whether it's learning fire safety, exploring astronomy, tackling global issues, or even mastering tricks in a professional magic workshop! Scouts also recently conquered towering heights at Hawkhirst, put their problem-solving skills to the test while interviewing a local surgeon, and began forging international connections. Thanks to visiting leader Carolina, the group recently connected with a fellow Scout troop in Colombia.

Scouting thrives because of volunteers—whether it’s those who support every week or those who drop in occasionally to lend a hand. Volunteers help create unforgettable experiences, ensuring every young person leaves Scouts with new skills, confidence, and lifelong friendships.

Scouting isn’t just about adventure—it’s about preparing young people for the future, building resilience, leadership, and independence along the way. If your child is between 6-14 and ready to explore a world of opportunity—or if you’re an adult looking to inspire the next generation—4th Newcastle Scouts welcomes everyone. We meet on Friday nights during term time, offering groups for ages 6-14.
