Costs

Helping our group to thrive and grow

Quick Links

No one should miss out on Scouts because of money — that’s why we work hard to keep costs low and cost-of-living support. If you’re worried about costs, just talk to your Section Lead. We want Scouts to be for everyone.

Scouts costs £105 a year, broken down into payments of £35 a term. Uniforms are extra — a Cubs jumper is about £18, and a Scouts shirt around £25. You can also buy or swap pre-loved uniforms to save money.

Some activities like day trips or camps have extra costs, but we plan these well in advance with a fixed budget, so families can prepare. Weekend camps usually cost about £150, and activities like the climbing wall about £13.

Where your money goes

Your termly subs (currently £35 per term) are what keep the adventure alive at 4th Newcastle. Scouts is run entirely by volunteers, but there are still real costs behind the fun. Here's where your money helps:

  • HQ Membership Fees & Insurance: We pay a per-head fee to the national Scouts organisation, which includes comprehensive insurance to keep every young person covered during activities.

  • Equipment & Upkeep: From tents and tarps to torches and tables, your subs help us buy and maintain the kit we need for safe, exciting sessions — indoors and out.

  • Training for Volunteers: Our leaders complete accredited training to help them support every young person well — your support helps us cover training materials and resources.

  • Subsidies for Activities: We keep camp and trip costs as low as possible — your contributions help top up where needed, so no one misses out due to cost.

Every term, your support helps us deliver safe, inclusive, skill-building fun for every young person who walks through our doors.

Magic money at no extra cost

Gift Aid lets us claim an extra 25p from the government for every £1 you give, without it costing you a penny more. It’s one of the easiest ways to help us do more — from funding adventurous activities to buying marshmallows.

Every little bit we claim helps us stretch our budget further — and provide more support, especially for families who need it.

How to Sign Up for Gift Aid

It’s simple: just tick a box and complete a short declaration form (you’ll usually find this on our New Joiner Form or via Online Scout Manager). That’s it!

✅ We don’t see your tax records
✅ We don’t need your National Insurance number
✅ We just need your permission

We handle the claim with HMRC — and you help us grow our resources for every Scout, Cub or Beaver in the group.

Important note about Gift Aid

To qualify, you must pay at least as much in Income or Capital Gains Tax in the tax year as we’re claiming.

If you’re not sure, check with HMRC or opt out — it’s better to be safe. No pressure. We’ll always appreciate your support in whatever form it comes.
