Scouts with additional needs
Scouts is for everyone, and we all work to make sure everyone is welcome
Scouting for every young person
At 4th Newcastle, we believe Scouting should be for every young person & every volunteer — no matter their needs, background, or experience.
We’re proud to welcome everyone with additional needs. Our aim is simple: to help every Scout feel safe, included, and ready for adventure.
A flexible, individual approach
We know every child is different. That’s why we work with families to understand what each young person needs to thrive.
From sensory needs to physical accessibility, communication differences to social anxieties — we’ll create a support plan that works for them.
The support we can offer
Here are just some of the ways we can make Scouting more accessible:
-
Quiet breakout spaces
-
Visual schedules and prompts
-
Extra time for tasks
-
One-to-one support (where needed)
Our leaders bring experience, empathy and patience — and we’re always learning, adapting, and listening to make sure we get it right.
Working together
If you’d like to talk about how we can support you or your young person, please reach out to your Section Leader or our Group Scout Leader.
All conversations are handled in confidence — and we’re happy to meet before your child’s first session if that helps.
Let’s work together to make sure every young person has the chance to shine.
