Introduction

At 4th Newcastle Scout Group, we’re proud to be part of the adventure. With over 50 young people across our Beaver, Cub and Scout sections — and a dedicated team of passionate volunteers — we help young people in Jesmond and beyond gain #SkillsForLife

Whether it’s learning to light a fire, lead a team, or look after their community, our programme is built to challenge, inspire and grow with every young person who joins.

Youth Shaped, Aways

Scouting is for young people — but it’s also by young people. That means our Scouts help shape what we do, how we do it, and where we go next.

From choosing their activities to leading parts of the programme, we give young people the tools and the trust to step up, speak out and lead the way.

Challenge and Adventure

Based in Jesmond, we use a mix of indoor spaces, church halls, parks and wild places to deliver an exciting programme packed with challenge and variety. From archery to wide games, night hikes to teamwork challenges, there’s always something to look forward to.

We support every young person to explore new things safely, stretch themselves at their own pace, and have plenty of fun along the way.

Our Programme

Everything we do is guided by the Scouts UK programme — built around teamwork, leadership, outdoor adventure and skills that stick. Our volunteers plan and deliver sessions that feel fresh, age-appropriate and full of energy.

And when our Scouts move on to Explorers? Many come back to help as Young Leaders — ready to give back what they’ve gained.

Supporting Scouts with additional needs

We encourage all members to take part, achieve and reach their full potential. Our programme, badges and activities are designed to be flexible to reflect a person’s individual needs.

Once a year, we bring everyone together — parents, young people, volunteers, and Trustees — to celebrate what we’ve achieved, look ahead, and tick off the important legal bits. It’s called our Annual General Meeting (AGM), and it’s a big moment in our Scout calendar.

Yes, there’s a formal side — reviewing accounts, reports, and appointing Trustees — but that’s just the start. It’s also a chance to see the impact Scouts has had over the year, thank our brilliant volunteers, and hand out our special Cub and Scout trophies for exceptional effort and attitude.

Plus, there’s food! Our Scout section usually puts on a BBQ — it’s completely free, and it’s a great way to wrap up the evening. See you there?

We’re proud to be supported by Jesmond Parish Church — they kindly provide our hall, storage, and a whole lot of encouragement too. Lots of our volunteers are church members, but that’s not a requirement. Scouts is for everyone — all faiths or none.

In the Scouts section and on camp, we run regular Scouts’ Own sessions where we pause, reflect, and think about the bigger picture — grounded in Scout values like kindness, respect and belief. These are led by volunteers of all backgrounds, whether they have a faith or not. Some of these sessions involve passages and messages from the Bible.

If you’ve got any questions, just drop our Group Lead Volunteer, Paul, a line at GLV@4thnewcastlescouts.org.uk — we’re always happy to chat.
